The Malaga cellar Print

The Malaga cellar is a mud cellar, which were used for storing wine and distilled spirits from the 17th century. It is the oldest of it's kind in the north of Norway, built by 1,50 metre thick so called "Ålesund brick walls". Sandtorgholmen got, as the first in the south of the county, a temporary licence to sell and distribute wine and destilled spirits, already in year 1770, and from our cellar we delivered wine to 7 parishes. There also was a bakery, from which delivered the communion wafers to the same parishes.

We have built the cellar as a wine bar with 30 seats. It is being used for wine tasting, aperitifs before dinner and coffee and aved after dinner. A very special atmosphere when you are sitting here, enjoying your drink, with candlelights and classical music in the background.
