The storehouse/bridal suite Print

The oldest existing building is the storehouse, which is the only building that survived all the four fires on Sandtorgholmen. The legend says that it is layed on by hands, and writing back to a story from the beginning of the 18th century when it was starvation in Norway, and large parts of the world. The wealth was big in Sandtorgholmen itself. Rasmus Christensen's wife, Maren Marie gave everybody food, but there was one woman she was not allowed to feed, because she was "trolsk". She did it anyway, and the woman was so touched, she said: There has been a big fire on the islet, but there will be three more fires. This storehouse is the only building that will not burn down.

The legend is correct, there was three fires after that, the last one in 1916. Nobody understood why the storehouse didn't burn down, since it was right in between all the other buildings that burned down.
Today we have renovated it to a beautiful bridal suite, and hope it can bring good fortune to the newly weds.  To this day, 69 newly-weds has guested the storehouse - and they are all still married!
